Red can be a tough shade of colour to wear. One minute it’s on your lips, the next minute it’s smeared onto your teeth or all over the glass which you just drank from, and now you’re worrying about reapplying. However, when you find the perfect red for you, it’s like hitting the jackpot. Whether it be matte, satin, glossy, deep, bright or bold red, it can instantly update your look immediately. When it comes to red everyone has their own preference, no doubt. For my skin tone deep red colour suits me the most. My face is usually more pale compared to my body (does anyone else have this issue?)

If you are a red lipstick addict like me, no matter how many reds you own its simply never, NEVER enough. New shades of red lipstick are being established daily and it’s such a cult(cool?) colour not to have another one. I always carry a red lipstick with me everywhere I go along with a nude. Which red do I take? That’s a tough question but I must say it depends on the season. I’ve provided you with 5 of my red lipstick in my collection. You’ll start to notice that most of my reds are from a certain brand.

1 | Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick. Shade: Made it Matte £17.50 ★★★★★ 5 out of 5.

The packaging has a matte texture and glides very gently into the cap. This is my first ever Smashbox Red lipstick and I am not disappointed. This has become one of my all-time favourites. As you can tell, it may look like it’s a brighter red but in reality it’s not. I have found with a lot of matte lipsticks which I’ve tried, they can make my lips look dry, cracked and flaky, leaving my lips needing SOS lip therapy (okay I’m exaggerating a little bit) but this is not the case with this one! It was almost like love at first sight and I adore the texture too. The lipstick is creamy, pigmented and soft, yet it maintains a perfect matte finish (strange isn’t it)? If you do drink, it does transfer to the cup, like most lipsticks as you can imagine. I’ve found with a lot of matte lipsticks which I’ve tried, they can make my lips look dry and cracked this is not the case with this one! (you already said that).

2 | MAC Matte Lipstick. Shade: Diva £16.50 ★★★★ 4 out of 5.

If you are not committed to a full red but like a mix of deep red and berry colour for the winter season, you will love this Intense reddish-burgundy (Matte). This wasn’t a colour I instantly loved because I’m not a burgundy/berry colour kind of girl but I must say I prove myself wrong. I’ve grown to love this combination. For sure this is a darker shade compared to my other lipsticks in my collection. The great thing about berry shades is that there’s great versatility, which makes it a fun range for all skin tones to explore. The texture is matte but glides into the lips nicely. I prefer to use a little bit of lip balm before applying this lipstick.

3 | MAC Matte Lipstick Shade: Ruby Woo £16.50 ★★★★ 4 out of 5.

This is an old time classic, possibly the most famous red lipstick of them all,  MAC’s much-loved Ruby Woo. As expected from its name, this is a bright ruby red with a matte texture but it does lasts the whole night long.  As this is a matte finish I would usually apply a lip balm first, to make it glide on more smoothly and also to keep my lips slightly hydrated. When I wear this colour, it reminds me of old Hollywood movies where the actress would wear this timeless ‘retro red.’ This is definitely a true red, not orange or a cool tone. I would say out of all the red lipstick’s I’ve tried this would probably work with most complexions.

4 | MAC Matte Lipstick Shade: Viva Glam 1 £16.50 ★★★★★ 5 out of 5.

I am obsessed with this colour. It’s an intense warm medium deep red with a slightly brownish undertone in a matte finish. The texture is super-duper pigmented and it settles down to the perfect matte but not transfer-proof, especially if you enjoy those morning coffees. This colour suits my pale-yellow undertone so nicely, it makes me look vibrant, especially when I don’t wear much eye makeup. Every time I’ve worn it numerous times, I always get tons of compliments. If you love the deep warm reds, I would highly recommend giving this a shot.

5 | E.L.F Matte Lip Shade: Cranberry £4.50 ★★★★ 4 out of 5.

If you are on the hunt for a cheaper, hydrating, smooth application, I would highly recommend giving the E.L.F in the shade Cranberry a purchase. It’s inexpensive and easy to apply since it’s in the form of a conveniently sized twistable pen-form applicator. Keeping in mind these lipsticks aren’t the most long wearing, the price suggests it all. This is a medium warm burgundy tone shade which goes well with every skin tone and it’s not intense so it’s suited for everyday wear. The lipstick has a satin soft texture making it easy to spread on lips but giving a satin matte finish.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope this blog helps your journey to finding your ultimate or ride and die red lipstick.
